Tomorrow is the Ribbon Cutting of myself and a few other new businesses in Wheat Ridge. It got me thinking (like so many things do!)…where did this tradition come from?
Ribbon Cutting is a European historical ceremony. It dates back to Arthurian (King Arthur or early1600’s) times when the ribbon was a symbol of unity or bondage. When it was cut servants were freed, women allowed to leave an unhappy union, and girls were given away by their fathers to be married. Symbolically, cutting the ribbon meant freeing or opening something.
