Scooter Curious….65 is the new 50!

older rider

I was recently in Hobe Sound, Florida for a few weeks visiting family.  Something caught my attention, a lack of scooters!  It’s Florida, and a resort/retirement community…what the heck?!

The problem it seemed was speed limit (most roads have a speed limit of 45 or you had to take a highway) and age.  Now I can’t argue what they vote in as speed limits, however I have my opinion.  SLOW DOWN!, enjoy the scenery, take your time and for goodness sake, if most of the drivers are over the age of 65, why on earth does it need to be so fast?

But let’s address the real issue: AGE.  In case you haven’t noticed, 65 is the new 50. We are living longer, we are more active and more aware of our environment than ever before.  So, why shouldn’t we be riding scooters when we retire? What a perfect means of transportation for someone wanting to slow down a bit, but still have a great time.

I had two customers here in beautiful Wheat Ridge Colorado this summer both over the age of 75!  Saving money on gas and not having to park so far away are also great reasons to ride a scooter when you are a bit older.  Don’t let age be a factor in fun…go out and enjoy life!

Todays Thoughts:  What are you waiting for?  Don’t wait until your body tells you it can’t do things anymore (and believe me, it will)..go and do things that make you smile and appreciate this beautiful place we call home…Denver Colorado!   Come on…”Age ain’t nothing but a number!”

Scooter Curious….Best Time of Year!!

fallcolors

The early mornings are a bit brisk, you can sometimes see your breath.  You grab a favorite sweater or sweatshirt and step outside. Maybe there is a little mist on the grass and a smell of moisture in the air.  By the time you get to your destination the sun has warmed the pavement and your body.  You peel of the layers of clothing and you are down to a t-shirt.  The sky seems bluer than it has been all summer.  You can smell the fresh cut grass and the colors in front of you are breathtaking.

I LOVE FALL!!  Denver and Golden, Arvada or Wheat Ridge…it just doesn’t get much better than exploring these places on a scooter in the fall.  Farmers Markets are abundant with fresh grown goodies. If you have been thinking about this all summer, but the timing wasn’t just right….now is the time!

Todays Thoughts:  Fall means change. Something new is coming around the corner. It’s a time for growth and opportunities. It’s a season of preparation for what’s to come. Clear your head and embrace the change, look forward to what’s to come!

Scooter Curious…Oh the people you will meet!

people

Who would have thought that my favorite part of owning a business here in Wheat Ridge Colorado, was the people I would meet?!  O.k., fair enough…if you know me than you would be saying “Of course it is!”

I have been thinking about some of the interesting, amazing and beautiful people who have walked thru my doors. Ever since I opened, I have been nothing but impressed by the world.  I won’t give names or too much detail, but here are some examples:

  • A group of 20-30 something’s from New Mexico who graduated from college and are working on a huge sustainable housing project.  Intelligent, giving and a great example of our future.
  • A 91 year old man who had his motorcycle license (not his car) taken away and just wanted to sit on “2 wheels again”.
  • 2 Religious young men in town for a camp.  So full of smiles and kindness!
  • An art teacher from New York who showed me how strong and capable a single woman can be!
  • Denver Musicians, Artists, Computer Repair, Business Owners…the list goes on!

I have made new friends, business acquaintances and learned about things I knew nothing of before. My head is getting fuller and my heart is growing bigger.

Today Thoughts:

People really are awesome. Yeah, you will meet a few who suck in this world, but let’s be honest with ourselves…most are absolutely amazing.  Next time your in the grocery store or standing in line for coffee, I challenge you to start up a conversation with the person next to you.  You may walk away with just a bit more knowledge then you had when you woke up today. Go and make a new friend, or be a mentor to a new business…I can’t tell you how much it is appreciated.

Scooter Curious…it’s spreading

Since I opened my business in April I have noticed and increase in Scooters in my area here in Wheat Ridge, CO. Oh sure, it could just be that I am much more aware, but I really believe there are more.

I have personally helped 4 people since I started to buy Scooters either online or thru a dealer.

So I started thinking, what would it look like if this was the “norm” and driving a car was the exception.

Let’s start out with the obvious:

GAS!

Car: Gas prices are around $3.46 near my house.  It costs me around $56.00 to fill my car. Between grocery store and friends and family and a few events (dinner, shopping) ,I can easily go thru a 1/2 a tank of gas on a weekend. ($28.00).

Scooter: My Scooter takes 1 gallon of gas. $3.46.  I can go to grocery store, friends and family and a few events (dinner, shopping) and maybe use a 1/2 a tank of gas ($1.78).

Driving experience:

Car: In a box with windows shut and air conditioning on. Radio on, phone nearby and people all around me talking and laughing. Not to bad.

Scooter: Open air, wonderful smells and sights.  No radio or phone to be distracting me. Only laughter is coming from me talking to the cows I just yelled to!

Convenience:

Car: I can load 24 bags of groceries in it. I can pass people on the highway. My hair doesn’t get messed up. I can bring along all my friends.  I can use my multi tasking abilities and talk on the phone, change the radio station, pull up my GPS and pay for parking at the lot or meter downtown.

Scooter:  I can load 4 bags of groceries (1 on front hook, 1 in seat and two in trunk box).  I don’t pass anyone, they can pass me. My hair is windblown and tussled. I use my multi tasking abilities to watch for cars and traffic, see cool sites and hear the birds and smell the flowers.  I still may use my GPS but I NEVER pay for parking.

Now ask yourself, “what would it look like”?  That’s pretty easy isn’t it?

Todays thoughts: Why not? Go against the grain and do something different. Save money and your sanity if you have the chance. Do you really need to be the fastest, biggest and most expensive vehicle on the road? Of course not!parked
